MusicSA was established on July 23, 1997 as a non-for-profit organisation that helps to promote, support and develop contemporary music in South Australia.

In 2015 MusicSA began the South Australian Music Awards (SAM Awards) as a development of the Fowlers Live Music Awards.

MusicSA launched their website in July 2003. It now features the largest online directory of bands and musicians dedicated exclusively to South Australian artists. It is their major resource, including industry news articles, details on gigs and events, a venue and business directory, contests and more.
