Cam Blokland is a guitarist from Adelaide, South Australia.

Biography[]

Cam Blokland started playing guitar and singing at a young age. Raised on his parents’ record collection, he was initially inspired by the rock and blues acts of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Cam studied classical guitar at high school, but ultimately found himself obsessed with the guitarists of the late 80’s “shred” movement. He then went on to study jazz performance at the Elder Conservatorium. There he found new inspiration in the form of jazz-rock (fusion) and eventually completed his Honours Degree in 2009.

Cam garnered some notoriety in the 2009 – 2012 Adelaide Fringe Festivals with a string of “album tributes” - performing live recreations of albums by Joe Satriani, Dream Theater, Metallica and Steve Vai. He has also lent his skills to a variety of original acts (ranging from R’n’B to heavy metal) as well as teaching.

Behind closed doors, Cam has always been an avid composer of instrumental-rock and fusion music. Eager to share his tunes with the world, he has now performed a number of times under his own banner as well as collaborating with celebrated Adelaide drummer Ben Todd.

In 2014 Cam chose to play the Lauda Custom Blackbird 24 taking it on stage with some of his heroes at the Adelaide International Guitar Festival in July, including Guthrie Govan.
