Craig Lauritsen is a drummer and cymbalsmith from Adelaide, South Australia.

Biography[]

Lauritsen has distributed his hand crafted cymbals all over the world under the business name 'Cymbalutopia' since 2004. He has made cymbals for the likes of Gregory Hutchinson (Joshua Redman, John Scofield), Jochen Rueckert (Marc Copland, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Pat Metheny), Luke Flowers (Cinematic Orchestra), Hamish Stuart (Ayers Rock, Ian Moss, Renee Geyer) and Michael Iveson (Gotye, Josh Pyke). He was also featured in a 2014 episode of the local Australian Broadcasting Corporation program '7.30' which documented some of the important history of his tutorage, distribution and statistics relating to his craft.[1]

As a performer Lauritsen has contributed to albums for local icons such as Eric Bogle. He has also recorded with fellow creative musicians on albums such as Think. Lauritsen has written instructional books about playing drums and has been involved in the Adelaide Jazz Collective, performing with Chris Soole and Ben Fuller. In 2016 he released an album under his own name entitled, 'Monachopsis'.
